The symbolism of the lotus in art is pervasive. It is mainly associated with Buddhism, where the lotus is an image of purity and perfection, representing the Buddha, who is depicted as the “Heart of the Lotus” on a throne in the form of a flower. Mirtala’s work is a minimalist bronze sculpture depicting a lotus flower arranged in a volume form that symbolises the earthly and heavenly spheres.
