According to O. Fedoruk, a researcher of P. Kapshuchenko’s creativity, this work also had an alternative title – “Lost Hopes.” The Unrecognised artist – a person in a coat with a collar raised and a slightly bowed head, stands in front of the audience at a critical and challenging moment of his life. The sculptor skillfully reproduces his character’s mood and inner world. He carefully considers gestures, posture, and movement. The image is characteristic in that it conveys not a moment of a state but prolonged, exhausting fatigue. In the hunched figure of the Unrecognised, we discern the essential components of a creative person who has fallen into the snares of misfortune: self-doubt and uncertainty about the time allocated for him. (from the book of Fedoruk, O. (2004). Plastyka Petra Kapshuchenka. [Peter Kapshuchenko’s Sculpting Work.] Kyiv; New York: M.P. Kotz Publishers, p. 130.). This work strongly resonates with the fate of the author. While recreating the posture of the Unrecognised, the author clearly understands the psychological state of his character, simultaneously crafting a holistic, timeless image of a creative individual.
